$50K bail for woman in T&T charged in sexual assault on Venezuelan
A 36-year-old woman in Trinidad and Tobago who was charged with committing grievous sexual assault against a 23-year-old Venezuelan woman, has been granted bail at $50,000.
Stacy Phillip, of Edinburgh 500, appeared before a Chaguanas Magsitrate on Tuesday, July 9, to answer the charges.
She was represented by attorney Taradath Singh.
W-Cpl Joseph is the complainant (charging officer) in this matter.
After submissions in the court, the matter was adjourned to August 6.
The charges stem from an incident which allegedly occurred at the woman’s home on June 25.
Police were told that the 23-year-old allegedly went to a roti –shop in the Couva district for a job interview.
However, she was forced to go to a house in Edinburgh 500, against her will, where she was kept for three days. The victim alleges that she was sexually assaulted during this time.
She was then dropped off in Chaguanas, and the victim was able to notify relatives.
She was picked up and made a report to police.
She was also medically examined.
Investigations were launched under Sgt Jugmohan, which led to the detention and arrest of the woman on Monday, July 8.
Police are still searching for the woman’s alleged accomplice in this matter.
