Accused granted bail after fleeing police custody

A man, who was on remand for allegedly escaping from a police vehicle after being charged, was granted bail in the District A Magistrate Court today.

Rodney Darian Clarke, 24, was remanded when he made his first appearance in court. The prosecution objected to bail because Clarke had no fixed address. However, his mother told the court her son would reside with her.

The magistrate granted bail in the sum of $3000 on the condition that Clarke lives with his mother. He told the mother she should return to the court if any issues arise.

The May 16 charge against Clarke reads : being charged with an offence: malicious use of Telecommunications, he did escape from the custody of police officers whilst in a police vehicle along Constitution Road without the use of force.

Clarke, who is represented by Sian Lange, will return to court on August 22.
