Accused granted bail on kidnapping charge

A businessman and two of his employees appeared before the District "A" Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with kidnapping another employee.

Omar Ahmad Bashiti, 51, of 242 Marcus Drive, Crystal Heights, St Michael is the owner of No.1 Beauty Supplies while Stevan Uros Greaves, 38, of Ellis Road, Halls Road, St Michael is the internet specialist and Renalto Cameron Barnard, 36, of 4th Avenue Pickwick Gap, Westbury Road, St Michael is the security guard.

The three are jointly accused of unlawfully removing Karen Thompson from Rock Dundo, St Michael on July 20, without her consent.

Bashiti is separately charged with stealing $700 from Thompson while in the District "D" jurisdiction. He was not required to plead to this charge.

However, Barnard and Bashiti denied trespassing at Thompson's house with the intent to commit theft. All alleged offences occurred on July 20

Prosecutor Station Sergeant Samuel Hinds objected to bail on a number of grounds including raising concerns for the alleged victim's safety. Attorney-at-law Angella Mitchell-Gittens, however, argued successfully on behalf of her clients.

Magistrate Douglas Frederick granted Bashiti, Barnard and Greaves bail at the sum of $15,000, $12,000 and $10 000 respectively.

They return to court on November 7.
