Bajan women on a high for regional tournament
Barbados Senior Women’s Football Team followed up their emphatic 10-0 win over the Turks and Caicos Islands last Friday, with another commanding performance last Sunday at the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Wildey Astroturf.
The 'Bajan Belles' defeated their opponents 9-0 in front of a boisterous and supportive local crowd.
Willandra Elliot turned the ball into her own net in the 16th minute to give Barbados an early lead. A minute later, Barbados' creative midfielder Shanice Stevenson doubled the host’s lead.
Two strikes by Marissa King in the 29th and 45th minute sandwiched Rihanna Cyrus’ contribution in the 35th minute.
The 5-0 score line at halftime announced a foregone conclusion, with the only mystery being the margin of victory.
Barbados sharp shooter Felicia Jarvis scored twice in the second half (51st and 83rd), to add to Moesha Goodman’s goal in the 58th minute and substitute Tianna Sealy’s in the 74th minute.
The Belles now look ahead to their next challenge scheduled for later this year in St Lucia, where they compete for the 2017 Windward Islands women’s football championship.
