2018 has already brought acclaim for one Barbadian resort.

Sugar Bay Barbados has been chosen as a winner in the Top 25 Hotels in the Caribbean category of the 2018 TripAdvisor® Travelers’ Choice® awards for Hotels, ranking 24. The prestigious award is based on traveller reviews and given to the ‘best of the best’ for service, quality, and customer satisfaction. Categories are international or regional and include everything from the top hotels and accommodations to destinations, attractions and even brands and products.

General Manager of Sugar Bay Barbados, Morgan Seale noted that their innovation and commitment have contributed to the hotel's success:

“We started with a property that was in need of renovations and some TLC. We saw something in the property and based on our family’s commitment to continued investment in the local economy, created a gorgeous 100 percent Bajan family-owned resort, employing approximately 300 Barbadians to welcome and care for our clients.

"It makes me proud to work with this team everyday, and what's incredible is we aren't even done growing and developing the resort to its maximum potential. Every week we roll out new concepts and try new ideas, some that fail and others that really and truly make a difference. Ultimately we keep our passion burning and fueling us to make sure every guest experience is a unique, authentic and warm Bajan experience. Congratulations Sugar Bay!”

Sales and Marketing Manager of Sugar Bay Barbados, Jamal Griffith, aslo chimed similar sentiments:

”We’re very honoured to have been selected among the winners for this award which represents the top one percent of hotels on TripAdvisor. It is not only a great distinction for the hotel, but also one for the island. This shows that Barbados and Barbadian owned all-inclusive properties like us, can compete with the bigger and more popular all-inclusive destinations and international brands.

"Barbadian owned properties are traditionally not able to compete on price point with all-inclusive destinations like Jamaica, Cancun and Punta Cana who benefit from lower input costs and bigger economies of scale. The redeveloping AI [all-inclusive] product coupled with our rich local culture, amazing people, safety, and a lot of attractions in a small area definitely places Barbados in a class of its own in that space within the travel industry.”
