Barbados named #3 southern Caribbean cruise destination
Barbados beat out Aruba, Martinique and several other popular Southern Caribbean islands, to nab third place in Cruise Critic’s Top-Rated Southern Caribbean Cruise Destinations. The top spot in the category went to Curacao with Bonaire coming in second.
Cruise Critic, a subsidiary of TripAdvisor, is the world’s leading cruise reviews site and online cruise community. The annual Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards names the world’s top cruise destinations based on reviews submitted for cruises taken over the past year.
Reviews on the Cruise Critic website commended Barbados for its friendly locals, beautiful beaches and activities.
“Itineraries are incredibly important to today’s cruisers who are more focused than ever on where they’re going and what they can do while they’re there,” said Colleen McDaniel, Senior Executive Editor of Cruise Critic. “Cruise lines have focused on expanding their offerings to quench that thirst for exploration – and this year’s list of winning destinations shows the wide array of adventures cruising offers.”
Director of Cruise at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Cheryl Franklin, said she was elated at the news.
“Accolades such as these are instrumental in boosting stakeholder confidence. Visitor satisfaction at this level helps reinforce our marquee port status and helps to secure Barbados’ position as a premier Caribbean cruise destination.”
She added, “We must not be complacent; the sustainability of our cruise growth will be dependent on building on these successes through investment in our people and our product.”
The Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards recognized several countries and cities across 15 regional categories.
Some of the highlighted awards included Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Cay as Best Cruise Line Private Island, Quebec City as Best in the U.S. & Canada, and European river cruise ports as Highest-Rated Cruise Region.
