Boat seized with over $2.5M in cocaine
Two Barbadian men, ages 64 years and 42 years, are currently assisting police in their investigations following a drug seizure at sea that netted over $2.5 million worth of cocaine and over $600,000 in cannabis.
According to police, members of the Drug Squad, Police Marine Unit, the Barbados Coast Guard, and Regional Security System (RSS) Air Wing, successfully intercepted a Barbadian vessel off the shores of Barbados yesterday, June 29.
A total of 50.5 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of $2,525,000, and 160 lbs of cannabis, with a street value of $640,000, was seized from the boat.
In a separate case, a 29-year-old man is on remand, after being charged in connection with the seizure of nearly 300 lbs of cannabis on a fishing vessel on Tuesday.
Jamar Jamal Williams of Road View, St. Peter. Williams appeared before Magistrate Elwood Watts in the Oistins Magistrates Court today charged with possession, trafficking, possession with intent to supply and importation of cannabis.
He was remanded to prison to reappear in court on July 4, 2017.
