VIDEO: Buju gave Barbados his all and more
If you want to go quickly, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.
This African proverb has been the crux of Mark “Buju Banton” Myrie's 32-year musical journey, one which has been aided by love and appreciation from his Barbadian fans.
On Saturday evening at Kensington Oval, the Grammy Award winner took thousands of fans along his Long Walk to Freedom with tracks such as “Untold Stories”, “Destiny”, “Driver”, “Psalm 23” and a number of others which were bellowed harmoniously by an appreciative crowd which included Prime Minister of Barbados The Right Honourable Mia Mottley and pop superstar Rihanna.
Buju Banton’s presence was the perfect opening to this year’s Barbados Reggae Festival.
After years of incarceration, the reggae icon displayed the same passion, connection and melodious vocals which saw him take the musical world by storm in 1987.
Banton was well supported by fellow countrymen and stalwarts Wayne Wonder and Spragga Benz, dancehall artist Agent Sasco (formerly Assassin) and our very own Buggy Nhakente.
It was definitely a show not to miss, but don’t take Loop's word for it. Take a look at the video and photos from the iconic show.
