Josh Burke is on his way to Ericeira, Portugal for the World Surf League EDP Billabong 10000 event - the highest level on the WSL World Qualifying Series Tour.
Burke who is currently ranked 3rd in the WSL North America rankings and 79th Intentionally will be flying the Barbados flag alone - besides being the only Bajan to qualify he is travelling with no support crew due to financial constraints.
Only the top 100 rank surfers in the world qualify for these high level 10000 events, this will be the 21-year-old’s third time making the cut into the main round at this level.
“I been having a really good year sitting on a 1st ( QS 1000), 3rd(1500), 5th (1000) and two 9th’s (3000) however a good result at this event or a win could see me on the championship tour next year and therefore qualify for the Olympics which I have my eyes set upon” Burke stated.
He opted out of competing at the ISA World Championships which is currently taking place in Japan to focus on Portugal, as there is no
Qualification relevance at this years ISA other than seeding benefits for next years event.
