Canadian national held in Piarco Int'l Airport with $8.3M in cocaine
A 31-year-old man was scheduled to appear before an Arima Magistrate on Wednesday after he was held with an estimated TT$8.3 million in cocaine at the Piarco International Airport.
The man, who police said is a Canadian citizen, was arrested at about 1:00 pm on Monday at the Piarco International Airport as he was about to board a flight to Canada.
Customs officials had cause to stop and search the man, and he was found to have several packets of cocaine. The drug, police said, was hidden among his personal belongings in his suitcase.
The officers then notified officers from the Organized Crime and Investigations Unit, and the suspect was detained and questioned.
He was subsequently charged and was due in court Wednesday.
More on this as it becomes available.
