Canadian visitor pleads guilty to marijuana charges

A 37-year-old Canadian woman is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to drug-related offences.
Mellissa Jacythnia McMillan appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District ‘C’ Court on Thursday September 21, where she pleaded guilty to possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cannabis.
According to police, McMillan arrived on the island by air from Canada. A subsequent search of her suitcase by Customs officers revealed 22 vacuum-sealed packages each containing cannabis. The police were informed and McMillan was subsequently arrested and charged for the offences.
She was remanded to prison to reappear in court on Monday, September 25 for sentencing.
