CANCELLED: Fantasy Kadooment band, Island Fusion pull the plug

There will be disappointment for some revellers planning to jump on Kadooment Day with Fantasy: The Crop Over Experience, as well as those who signed up for Island Fusion’s first cruise to replace their usual Foreday Morning band.
Fantasy cited the economic climate, the recently implemented Budget measures, reduced sponsorship and slow costume sales as factors in their decision to withdraw their Kadooment band.
“Our ability to deliver an optimum product to you became severely compromised and we met to explore all avenues to ensure you, the masquerader is at the forefront of benefit in this process. It is not and never will be our practice to subject you to a sub-standard product. Therefore, as a result of the developments, we have been forced to make the very difficult decision of cancelling our masquerade band for Crop Over 2017.”
Speaking to Loop News this afternoon, General Manager of Fantasy Management Inc., Jason Zeddo, said the decision was made with the masqueraders in mind.
“You have to consider the masquerader who has already paid the deposit, maybe also paid for a plane ticket to come to Barbados, paid for accommodation. So they still need to time to get money back on their account and time to find another band to play mas’ with, so we had to make the decision now rather than later.”
He said they were aiming for 450 to 500 masqueraders, but only around 150 had signed up so far.
Fantasy Management Inc. assured that all persons who signed up for the 2017 band would receive full refunds.
Crop Over cancellations
Meanwhile, management of Island Fusion also announced the cancellation of their Foreday Morning event, being billed as ‘Barbados’ first Foreday Cruise’.
The Foreday Morning band, which was very popular among young adults, made a major change earlier this year, when they said they would not be participating in the Foreday Morning Jam, hosted by the National Cultural Foundation (NCF).
Instead, they revealed plans for an all-inclusive cruise on the MV Harbour Master at 2 a.m., with a pre-party at Pirates Cove starting at midnight.
However, in an announcement made via Instagram this afternoon, they said the cruise was being cancelled "due to circumstances beyond our control".
Patrons have been advised that refunds will begin from July 8.
