UPDATE [8:05 pm]: Fire totally destroys car

The Royal Barbados Police Force provided an update on this incident in the following press release:

Police are conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding a car fire, which occurred sometime around 2:00 pm today in the area of JPC Ramsey Roundabout, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael.

The vehicle which was travelling in the direction of Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, which destroyed a taxi motor car, owned by Corey Lewis, of Flagstaff, St. Michael and being driven by Darnley Nurse, 35 years, of Wildey, St. Michael.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Nurse was driving the motor car along the road, when he observed smoke coming from the area of the bonnet. On stopping and exiting the car he observed that the car was on fire.

One fire tender, and five fire officers under the command of Fire Officer Fields responded to the blaze.


UPDATE [2:30 pm]: Eyewitness Account

Loop received the following information from another motorist who was driving by when the incident occurred:

"The driver saw smoke coming from the bonnet of the car, quickly hopped out and went to open it. As soon as he opened it the flames were visible and the car was on fire."

One fire tender responded to the incident under the command of leading Fire Officer Ernle Fields and three other officers.



ORIGINAL POST [1:50 pm]: Car catches fire at Sky Mall

Emergency services personnel are currently in Haggath Hall, St Michael, where a car caught fire in the vicinity of Sky Mall.

While the Barbados Fire Service confirmed the incident, they could not provide details at this time, as responders are still on scene.
