Caribbean Food Festivals you don't want to miss

The July/August vacation is almost over and with it all the exciting Caribbean Carnivals that many of us look forward to every year.

The next few months might look bleak on the social calendar but if you are a foodie, there is good news. The next few months will see a number of food events around the region you do not want to miss.

Here are some festivals that will be closing off the rest of 2017.

St Lucia Food and Rum Festival

Dates: August 24 to 27

The St Lucia Food and Rum festival is back as part of the St Lucia Soleil Summer Festival. This festival invites chefs, wine connoisseurs, rum fanatics and foodies from the Caribbean and the world to taste wine and rum, dine on exquisite meals and enjoy musical performances.

Trinidad and Tobago Restaurant Week

Dates: September 15 to 24

Over 80 restaurants will be participating in this year’s Restaurant Week which is designed to bring awareness of the country’s culinary scene. This year, to assist with booking and to give patrons information, there is an app available for download. Book early, as reservations go fast.

Tobago Blue Food Festival

Dates: October 15

In Tobago, dasheen is considered “Blue Food”. The Blue Food Festival celebrates the dasheen specifically with products that show the versatility of the crop, such as liqueurs and gourmet dishes. Considered one of the best food festivals in the world by CNN, the festival attracts thousands every year to Bloody Bay, venue for the event.

Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival, Barbados

Dates: November 16 to 19

The Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival features the work of chefs from the island and around the world. The Festival will open this year with the Oistins Bay Gardens Cook Off followed by the  Signature Rum Event with food and rum pairings and fine dining events which pair international chefs with local top chefs. The festival climaxes with a Beach Party at the Hilton Resort Barbados along with a final fine dining dinner at the Tides Restuarant featuring UK Master Chef - Chef Tom Aikens.

Caribbean Food & Wine Festival, Turks and Caicos 

Dates: November 2 to 5

Featuring an all-star line-up of chefs from around the world, this Festival is a key event in the Turks and Caicos which puts local cuisine on display with an international twist.
