The yellow Suzuki Swifts will be put into full use as Chefette Restaurants Ltd begins their delivery service officially.
The company announced today, July 6, 2020, on Instagram, that they will be introducing delivery in phases, which will be determined by location. The first location will be their Six Roads, St Philip branch.
Customers are required to spend a minimum of $20 to qualify for delivery and will also have to pay a $10 fixed delivery fee. In addition, customers must pay online by credit or VISA debit card. However, many were not too thrilled about these implemented rules.
One Instagram user commented on the post saying, “Please consider cash for delivery not every one has a debit or credit card”.
Chefette Restaurants defended their decision responding to this comment stating:
“Please note our NEW Chefette Delivery service only accepts online payments (Credit Cards & VISA Debit Cards) at www.chefette.com for the following three reasons: (1) Chefette is a Pay First system, (2) Safety for our Delivery Drivers re a Cashless system and (3) Safety for our Customers using Contactless payment”.
Taking the point, one customer also tried to explain that he appreciates how safety was being considered by Chefette and how the pay first way also removes the possibility of wasted deliveries.
He wrote: "World advancing mann [sic], take COVID-19 to get Barbados to move forward with regards to certain things.. Can't blame Chefette for looking out for the driver's safety either. Also a driver could deliver the food and customers using their debit card and not a cent.. Got the driver in shambles.. System good.. Person would adapt..."
Their delivery fee also had to be defended as it was criticised by many.
Chefette thanked one of their followers for explaining the fee to a disgruntled follower. This person compared the delivery charges of other fast-food chains on the island to which someone stated that the online prices for such fast-food chains have the delivery fee included in their food prices unlike Chefette.
Later this month, delivery will be introduced from their Lancaster, Charles Rowe Bridge, Oistins, Rockley and Wildey locations.
Delivery times are Mondays to Saturdays 11.30 am to 10 pm and Sundays midday to 10 pm.
