Convicted drug offender slapped with $40,000 fine or jail time

A convicted drug offender has 12 months to pay $40,000 to the court or face prison time.

This is the ultimatum facing Korie Orlando Gale-Forde of Gall Hill, Christ Church after he pleaded guilty to possession, supply, trafficking and importation drug charges on Wednesday.

The estimated value of the drugs is $71,600.

Despite a strong mitigation from lawyer Mohia Ma'at, Magistrate Douglas Frederick imposed the fine along with bail conditions.

Forde has to surrender his passport and report to Oistins Police Station every Wednesday before 10am. He is also prohibited from travelling until the matter is completed.

His bail stands at $40,000 with one surety. The matter was heard in the District "A" Magistrates' Court.
