The Barbados Crop Over Festival 2018 will continue as planned, that is the word from the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), producers of the festival.

Following an extensive briefing session with the newly appointed Minister of Creative Economy, Culture and Sports, the Honourable John King and the new Permanent Secretary to the Ministry Ms. Deborah Payne, it was confirmed that the season will commence with the scheduled events on the official calendar.

Minister King again articulated his intent to support the initiatives previously planned for the current Festival and his confidence in the competence of the team to execute a successful production.

With this announcement, the Crop Over events will kick off on Sunday, June 10 with the BTPA Crop Over Heritage Bus Tour in association with Carmeta’s. This new guided heritage bus tour themed Rum and Sweet Food, described as a fun and fact-filled, culturally enhanced culinary experience will bring the history of our food into dramatic, gloriously appetizing life.

Next up on the calendar will be the Scotiabank Junior Calypso Monarch Tent 1 in association with IGM Stage Lighting on June 16 at 6:00 p.m. as advertised. While First Citizens Crop Over Xplosion, the official opening of the Festival will now take place on June 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the King George V Memorial Park.

First Citizens Crop Over Xplosion tagged ‘Tuk-it-Up!’ is expected to be a cohobblopot of sounds, smells, tastes and sights showcasing the island’s rich cultural traditions of the Festival seen through a forward looking lens that is more attractive to a younger audience.

As someone with a passion for this industry and strong views on a vision for its way forward, Minister King noted that at the end of the season, having been able to make a full assessment, he would be in a more informed position to take any necessary decisions that will carve the ‘futurescape’ of this important pillar in our economy.
