Created : 20 August 2019
Minister of Culture, Creative Economy and Sports, John King
Minister of Culture, Creative Economy and Sports, John King is happy with Barbados’ showing at the Caribbean Festival of Arts - CARIFESTA XIV, currently being held from August 16-25 in Trinidad and Tobago.
Speaking after Barbados’s Country Night performance on the main stage at the Queen’s Savannah, King noted that the region had had a hand in many of the world's major inventions, whether from within the Caribbean or on the outside the region.
“Our people have contributed to a lot of the things that we take for granted in the world. So when you talk about creativity in mind, there is no other part of the world as creative as the Caribbean region. But for us to be together, which for me is the most important thing . . .. If you look into the audience, I am sure that you can see people that look like someone that you know at home.
“It tells me something I have been saying it for years . . . we all made the same trip on the same ship, scattered throughout these islands, but there is a spirit that connects us and it expresses itself every two years at CARIFESTA. We get the opportunity to share, to collaborate and to tell the world our story from our perspective and let everyone know who we are,” the minister who is leading his first delegation to the regional cultural showcase expressed.
