Daytime shooting in The Pine shocks community

Police are investigating a morning shooting which left one man wounded.

According to the police there was a report of a shooting around 9.25 am today, Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Shepton Lane, The Pine, St Michael.

News of the shooting spread across Barbados via social media. Motorists also avoided the area because policemen blocked off sections of the street to conduct their investigation and secure the crime scene.

The victim of the shooting is Omar Phillips. He is 36 years old and resides at No. 6 Harbour View, The Pine, St Michael.

Police issued a statement saying that Phillips was standing in the area near the corner of Shepton Lane and Golden Rock, The Pine, St. Michael when he was approached by an unknown masked man who fired several shots in his direction. He received a gunshot injury to his right hand and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) for medical attention where he was treated and discharged.

Police investigations are continuing into the matter.
