Trinidad and Tobago Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, has revealed that his battle with COVID-19 is far more than professional - his daughter contracted the virus.

In a series of tweets, the Minister detailed that while Europe was the epicentre of the virus’ spread, his daughter and son-in-law, who both reside in England, were diagnosed with COVID-19.

Deyalsingh briefly outlined the personal struggle he endured while managing Trinidad and Tobago’s COVID-19 response, even while worrying about his own family.

“No one knew this at the time. We were very scared. But I did not miss a day's work as your MP or as your Minister of Health. It was not easy but, my commitment was to keep the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago safe,” he wrote.

He reaffirmed his commitment both as a member of parliament and as Health Minister. Deyalsingh also rubbished claims that the government lacks empathy toward citizens abroad while T&T’s borders remain closed.
