Drug accused surprised by outstanding warrant

A warrant of arrest came as a surprise for a man who thought he was at court to answer a simple drug possession charge.

Instead Dario Rico Morris, 28 years old, of Richmond Gap, St Michael was remanded to HMP Dodds.

Morris appeared in No. 1 District "A" Magistrate's Court where he pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis.

According to police, on December 15, Morris was seen in Baxter's Road riding a bicycle and wearing a black backpack at the time. When Morris saw police officers, who were on duty, he ran; causing the officers to pursue him.

When he was searched two grease proof wrappings were found in his pocket.

Magistrate Douglas Fredrick asked Morris to pay a $300 fine forthwith but it was as he waited to make a call that officers informed the court of the warrant of arrest.

The warrant was imposed by the magistrate of the No.2 District "A" Court.

He was escorted to the adjoining court and later remanded.
