Empire maintains lead in the Premiership

In a near case of déjà vu, Empire snatched all three points from BSA.

In a near case of déjà vu, Empire snatched all three points from BSA.

Empire SC continued where they left off in 2018, with another victory in the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Premier League.

The Zone 2 leaders edged new boys RBC Capital Market Barbados Soccer Academy (BSA) 2-1 last Sunday evening at the BFA Wildey Turf, to earn their sixth victory in seven matches.

The result took the 'Blues' onto 18 points, four more than second place Barbados Defense Force Sports Programme (BDFSP).

Empire started the game more assertive than their opponents as they spent a great deal of time possessing the ball in the BSA’s half.

However, it was BSA who broke the deadlock in the 14th minute.

St Lucian international midfielder Noah Nicholas, took advantage of Empire’s custodian Oba Tucker's error at the top of the area and easily passed the ball into the open net.

Brazilian midfield maestro Daniel Calvi equalized on the stroke of half-time with arguably the goal of the season thus far.

Abiola Grant was brought down just outside of the BSA penalty area.  Calvi stepped up and curled his left-footed effort over the wall and just inside the left upright beyond former Empire goalkeeper Christopher Wilson.

In a near case of déjà vu, Empire snatched all three points from BSA.

With mere seconds remaining in the game, Empire were granted a set piece and they made it count just like their first goal.

A corner from the right by Shanoi Evans was met by the head of Jamaican midfielder Ormando McLeod and nudged over the line by Renaldo Bignall from close range, to dent the hearts of the BSA contingent in the 92nd minute.
