Engineer arrested for sticky cannabis worth over $800 000

The Royal Barbados Police Force issued the following press release on a recent drug bust.

On the 31st day of August 2017, The Drug Squad and Customs Enforcement Division conducted an operation at the Bridgetown Port. As a result of that said operation, forty (40) pails of Adhesive Glue each containing a quantity of cannabis wrapped in brown tape were discovered.

Investigations further revealed that these pails of Adhesive Glue arrived in Barbados on board a Cargo Vessel on the 2017/08/31 from St. Lucia; they were consigned to a company in Barbados.  Investigations conducted by the Drug Squad led to the arrest of Duane Ryan Gittens 34 years, a Civil Engineer of lot #405 Westwood Drive, St. James.   He was formally charged with the offences of:

*Possession of cannabis

*Possession with intent  to supply

*Trafficking cannabis

*Importation of Cannabis

The weight of the drugs was 418.8 lbs, with an estimated street value of over $837,000.00 Barbados currency.


He is expected to appear in the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court today.
