Facebook threats shifted to real-life altercation

A confrontation over a Facebook post ended with a woman before the court charged with assault.

Shaneka Avonda Clarke, 25, of Scotts Gap, Britton's Hill, St Michael pleaded guilty to assaulting Chanyce Christopher causing her actual bodily harm on July 8, 2015.

The court heard that the complainant and Clarke were involved with the same man and were harassing each other. On the day of the incident, Christopher was on her way home when she was struck from behind with a broomstick. This was followed by Clarke holding Christopher's hair and cuffing her about the body.

Clarke said Christopher posted her face and a random picture of a woman's genitals on social media.

She explained to the court that throughout the year Christopher and her friends would interfere with her and would send threats on Facebook.

That night she asked her about the post and they fought but she said she didn't hit her with a broomstick. Clarke said she hasn't spoken to Christopher since the altercation over two years ago. She also denied that they were involved with the same man as the prosecution stated.

She was granted personal bail of $500 and will reappear on February 23. The complainant will also be present.
