Family trip to the beach turns into tragedy

A 33-year-old father of three reportedly drowned over the weekend.

The deceased has been identified as Hussain Yusaf Mohammed Greene of Westbury Road in St Michael.

Information from the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) stated Greene, along with his girlfriend and their three children, visited Brandon's beach on Sunday, March 22, 2020.

Around 1 pm, the family had been lounging on the sand and decided to go closer to the edge of the water. Greene was carrying a beach ball which fell into the water and drifted out to sea. He swam out to sea to retrieve the ball but it drifted further out to sea.

When Greene was returning to the shore, he got into difficulty. His girlfriend, observing his plight, swam out to assist him. After struggling for a while, another lady helped the girlfriend bring Greene to shore.

They attempted to resuscitate him while an ambulance was summoned. Ambulance personnel arrived within minutes and transported Greene to the QEH for medical attention.

He was pronounced dead by a medical doctor at the QEH sometime after his arrival. Investigations are ongoing.
