First-time father Marlon Harte has his hands full with his new bundle of joy, Corbyn. He welcomes the challenge to provide an uplifting and nurturing environment for his baby boy.

How long have you been a father?

Six months.

How many children do you have?

One handsome son.

What is his name and how old is he?

Corbyn and he’s six months old.

What is the most challenging thing about fatherhood in this current society?

Creating an environment that supports good overall development, socially and otherwise.

What is the most beautiful thing about fatherhood?

Watching him grow and learn new things daily.

How has your involvement in sports aided/impacted your ability to be a father?

It helps me with expectation. I read a lot, especially about physical and mental development. I know of all his milestones and I gauge when he hits them.

What’s your opinion on male role models in sports?

Sports simulate real life. Role models are a good example of how to simulate life through sports.

What three words describe you as a father?

I intend to be firm, fair and friendly.

What words of wisdom would you give to men on this Fathers’ Day?

“You don’t raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes”. – Walter M. Schirra Snr.
