Flindt was even known for their wedding cakes.

Despite changing up its tradition two months ago and doing some renovations, one of Barbados' most popular and sweetest businesses is packing up its cake boxes and clearing its shelves after two decades.

Chef Carsten Flindt has announced on Patisserie & Bistro Flindt Facebook page that they are closing their doors. "Thank you all for the last 20 years (blue heart)"

This post was accompanied by a letter from Carsten which stated:

'To all our Loyal customers, suppliers and Friends.

It is with much regret and sadness that we announce the closure of Flindt.

For the past 20 years we at Patisseries & Bistro Flindt have strived to create a quality product, while providing exemplary service, all in effort [sic] to give you an exceptional experience.

We have had many challenges along the way and have fought hard to overcome them and made considerable personal investments, however with the changing climate and other internal and external factors, we have finally hit a dead end.

In closing, we wish to thank you, our friends and loyal customers for all your invaluable support over the past 20 years. We truly appreciate your business and friendship and and [sic] the management and team will deeply miss you all."

The closure notifying letter was dated November 12, 2018. It was shared this morning around 9:00 am on their social media. On Facebook, Flindt had close to 10 000 followers and likes.

Back in September on the 25th to be exact, Flindt had announced:

"For September we are trying something NEW!

To allow for annual staff holidays and some kitchen renovations in the quieter time, we will be providing a “Counter” Café service during the week (we will not be serving our breakfast or lunch menu). All our items will be available from the display fridge / counters inside so please come inside, choose what you’d like and order at the counter. You are free to use our tables inside or out but there will be no official Table Service."

However, according to the closure notice, the September move was not enough.

Opened in August 1998, Flindt had previously closed its Quayside location, so today's closure speaks to the final branch at 1st Street, Holetown, St. James.

Flindt offered a few services including catering, take out, delivery and even hands-on cooking classes. They were best known for their celebration cakes and decadent sweet creations in addition to serving breakfast, lunch and coffee.
