Flood watch in effect for the island

A Flood Watch is now in effect for Barbados until 12 noon Saturday 18 August, 2018. Residents in Flood-prone areas should be on the alert and take the necessary precaution.

Cloudy skies and scattered showers which affected the island during the night and into the early morning were associated with an approaching tropical wave. Shower activity diminished as the morning progressed, but latest satellite and radar imagery indicate the potential for some outbreaks of moderate to heavy showers during this afternoon and into tonight.

Further analysis suggests that this wave will continue to affect the island into tomorrow. As a consequence of the rainfall activity experienced across some sections of the island over the past few days, any additional rainfall is likely to result in some localized flooding.

A Flood Watch means that the conditions are favourable and there exists the possibility of some flooding within the Watch area, in this case, within the next 12 to 24 hours. This Watch may be up-graded to a Warning if conditions warrant.
