Foreign is not always better, says local manufacturer

Meridian Caribbean Windows captured the prize for Small Business of the Year at the Small Business Association Awards last month.

General Manager of Meridian Caribbean Windows, Ziad Kazan, has renewed the call for Barbadians to support local manufacturers and service providers.

The company recently captured the coveted Small Business of the Year Award during a ceremony to mark the end of Small Business Association (SBA) Week 2017.

Kazan said there is often the perception that products made outside of Barbados are better but Meridian is testament to the fact that foreign is not always better as they have had to invest time in repairing and servicing several imported products.

“Our manufacturing is alive and well and many companies in the construction industry, in the precast and many other products, exceed the quality and exceed the ratings for any extraregional product. So we would like to encourage the wider public to look at what is produced in Barbados and give it a try; give it a chance.”

Another advantage of locally produced goods, Kazan noted, was the fact that the face and voice of the company resided in Barbados.

“You have the production here, the servicing is here, the after sales service and the preventative maintenance teams are here and you will always have a face and a voice to interact with when you buy a locally produced product.”

Meridian Caribbean Windows also received the Manufacturing Sectoral Group Award and Kazan said the awards cap a year that has been challenging but fruitful and the company will continue its quest to be the premier provider of uPVC products and glazing solutions in the region.
