Former BDF soldier remanded for drug bust

Members of the Drug Squad have arrested and formally charged a former Barbados Defence Force (BDF) Soldier for a number of drug-related offences committed yesterday, at Belle Road, My Lords Hill, Saint Michael.

He is Ovid Comienskey Alleyne,  35 years, of Belle Road #1, My Lords Hill, St. Michael.               

Alleyne was arrested and charged for:

     * Possession of Cannabis

     * Trafficking of Cannabis

     * Possession of Cannabis with intent to supply

     * Cultivation of Cannabis


Members of the Drug Squad executed a warrant at the residence occupied by Alleyne yesterday. During the search a quantity of loose cannabis was discovered, along with, 14 cannabis plants, the tallest being 6 ft in height, being cultivated in his yard.  He was arrested and subsequently charged for the offences.

Alleyne appeared before Magistrate Douglas Fredricks in the District ‘A’ Magistrates court yesterday, where he pleaded guilty to the offences and was remanded to prison pending sentencing.

The total weight of the cannabis was 4.5 kgs, with an estimated street value of BBD $18, 000.
