Four Barbadian staff members at Sandals Barbados have been promoted to managerial and supervisory roles within the company, including one young woman.

This is in keeping with the continued commitment of Sandals Resorts International to the upward mobility and wellbeing of its staff members.

They are Akil Lewis, the new Assistant Training & Development Manager; Dominque George, who has been appointed Assistant Loyalty & Travel Manager and Ortez Hurley and Val Alleyne, who have been promoted to Supervisors in the Watersports department.

Congratulating the four, General Manager Ramel Sobrino said, “We are extremely proud of all of our team members, especially when we see them moving from strength to strength within the company. These four who have been recently promoted are just a few of the dedicated, local employees who all have the opportunity of bright careers ahead of them at Sandals.”

For George, the move comes after three years of hard work and belief in the brand. She said, “I constantly seek to develop into a better Dominique daily. Being promoted to Assistant Loyalty and Travel Manager came as a shock to me but also a reminder that hard work always pays off.

“I am thankful to Sandals for the opportunity to prove how deserving I am of this position. Through hard work, dedication and passion, I can say with conviction that my journey has just begun and the best is yet to come.”

On his promotion, the Combermere alumnus Lewis said, “One of my main aspirations since graduating from UWI was to become a Human Resources (HR) Consultant and this opportunity places me closer to achieving that goal. I have been with Sandals Barbados for a challenging yet exciting two years; starting as Hospitality Trainee and then Pastry Cook.

“When the opportunity to transition into the HR Department was presented to me I jumped without hesitation. It feels great knowing that Sandals is committed to my personal development. My only intention from here is to continue’ UP and ON’.”

The watersports duo of Hurley and Alleyne echoed similar sentiments. Alleyne, one of the original employees of Sandals when it opened in 2013, said: “From the beginning we were told that Sandals opens up opportunities not only here but in the other islands it operates in as well, which at the time I thought was pretty cool.”

He added, “What is great about the company is when they hired me I was in my older years and promotion wasn’t on my mind but I worked hard and they recognized what I had to offer and this earned my promotion, so I am extremely proud.”
