Four shot in three different incidents on the last day of January

Shots rang out in three communities across Barbados in the space of one hour as January came to end, leaving four nursing gunshot wounds.

Police responded to three different shooting incidents on the night of Friday, January 31, 2020.

At 8.30 pm, police received a call of a shooting incident at St Jude's in St. George. Police say that 33-year-old Rolston Dawson of St Jude's was at home eating when he heard loud explosions and only realised afterwards that he was shot multiple times about his body. He was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by private car. Police investigations are continuing.

Thirty minutes later, police were summoned to a shooting incident at Paddock Road, St Michael, where Aldolphus Boyce, 89 years of the said address received a gunshot to his left leg. Members of the Force from the Hastings station responded to the matter which reportedly occurred about 9pm. 

Police Public Relations Officer, Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss said that some men were liming in the Paddock Road area and reportedly were playing with a firearm when it accidentally went off. Adolphus Boyce was walking by when the explosion was heard and he received an injury. The elderly St Michael man was transported to the QEH by the police for medical attention.

Police rushed him to the hospital because no ambulances were available at that time.

Two shot in Church Village

And a mere half hour or so later, police were again responding to yet another shooting incident. This time, around 9.25 pm, shots were heard in Church Village, St Philip.

Police responded to a report of a shooting incident at Cotton House Club, Church Village, St Philip about 9.25 pm.

On arrival to the Church Village location, police discovered Virgil Glenroy Harewood alias 'Glen' of Sargeants Street, St John lying on the ground with multiple gunshot injuries but alive. He was transported to the QEH by ambulance, while a second victim, 33-year-old Jamal Ricardo Barrow of Cox Hill, St Philip, was shot in the left knee and was transported to the QEH by private motorcar.

Police investigations into all three matters are continuing.
