FTC decision into island wide power outage coming soon
Created : 7 August 2020
The investigation being conducted by the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) into the November 2019 island wide power outage is near completion and a decision is to be issued in September 2020.
A release from the FTC said the investigation is in the final phase and it involved the review of the circumstances which contributed to the outages, as well as the mitigation measures engaged and response undertaken by the Barbados Light and Power Company Limited (BL&P).
The Commission assessed whether the occurrence of the outages breached the Utilities Regulation Act, CAP. 282 or any other law which the Commission administers; or the Commission’s BL&P Standards of Service Decision 2018-2020.
The investigation also considered matters related to service delivery, damage claims and customer compensation.
The BL&P was afforded the opportunity to respond to the Preliminary Findings Report which the Commission completed in May 2020.
The BL&P’s response document is currently under review, after which a final determination will be issued and shared with the public.
