Residents of Melvin’s Avenue, Black Rock, St. Michael had reported the smell of gas yesterday afternoon.
When contacted by Loop News, NPC officials indicated that a team was dispatched following damage to a gas line caused by a third party and that the repairs were completed last night.
The National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) supplies natural gas to residential areas across Barbados through its "pipeline network of approximately six miles of transmission and 307 miles of distribution lines".
The NPC advises via its website that if you smell a faint odour of natural gas inside your home or business, you should investigate immediately and call the NPC 24-hour emergency service at 430-4000.
Additionally, if a strong or persistent odour of gas is present in your home or if you hear a hissing sound of escaping natural gas, you should vacate the premises immediately, refrain from using any electrical switches, appliances, or matches and contact the NPC emergency service via a telephone outside of the affected building.
