Gine On Awards Ceremony heading to Frank Collymore Hall

The Gine On People's Choice Awards is taking things to another level for 2020 with the staging of an award ceremony in grand fashion at The Frank Collymore Hall.

The awards are scheduled for Sunday, March 1 and promises to be an event that celebrates the best of Barbados' creative talents chosen by Barbadians themselves.

One of the creators of the awards, DJ Simmons, said the event is a chance for Bajan creatives to come together and celebrate each other.

"It is a night where we celebrate culture and is one night where we gonna have a myriad of creatives all in one space under one roof. Just learning bout one another and celebrating about one another. Feeling good about being Bajan under one space."

DJ went on to say the event will be emceed by Belle Holder and they intend to also use the night to have moments throughout where they spread Bajan nuggets of wisdom and culture, including a special tribute to the late great Kamau Brathwaite.

"We will be live streaming the arrivals of everyone and there will be presenters on stage presenting the awards to the awardees. There will be entertainment by some of our local stars and a wine reception that will be happening after the awards ceremony that the community can mix and mingle with all the nominees that are being honored and you could get your pictures and stream live.  We will also have the books nominated for the book of the year on sale at the event as well."

He described the dress code for the event as "confident" and encouraged patrons to support local entrepreneurs and vendors in the lead up to awards ceremony.

"We want people coming out dressed to kill, feeling good and looking good. Really celebrating the night.
So in terms of getting your clothes, go to local stores and get your hair done and accessorized by local vendors. So as you get ready for the event support as many local vendors and businesses as possible."

The all-star night of pure Barbadiana is all set and patrons will get to see what is really "Gine On."
