Girlfriend presses charges

A man who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend of 17 years claimed in court that he had no recollection of the event; blaming his lapse in memory on alcohol.

Nevertheless, Franklyn Curtis Carew, 44, of Hill Road, Bank Hall, St Michael pleaded guilty to assaulting Shonette Lorde causing her Actual Bodily Harm on December 8, 2017. Sergeant Rudy Pilgrim said Carew hit Lorde in the head after an argument.

The prosecution also recalled how they were past complaints about Carew's intoxication and abusive nature toward Lorde.

Carew admitted he was intoxicated on the day and could not remember what happened.

Lorde told the court she had enough of Carew's “miserable” behavior and wanted him gone.

It was recommended that Carew undergo counselling. He returns to the District "A" Magistrates' Court on April 20, 2018.
