Good Samaritans in T&T help siblings after vehicle breaks down
“There are still good and honest people in Trinidad.”
Those were the words of Vanessa Precious Thomas, as she thanked two men who stopped to assist her siblings after their vehicle broke down near Mount Hope at night.
She took to Facebook to share the good news, noting that it could have been worse.
Thomas’ post quickly went viral with over 2000 likes and over 800 shares.
According to Thomas, her brother Gary was on his way to drop his sister to work last Friday around 10 pm when his vehicle broke down near Mount Hope. Two men stopped to assist.
The siblings were initially hesitant, however, the men assured that they meant no harm.
The men identified as cousins Amir Mohammed and Vijay Singh dropped the sister to work at the Eric Williams Sciences Complex and then returned to assist Gary.
“One of the men identified themselves as a mechanic. My brother explained to them that he was taking my sister to work when the car broke down. They asked if my sister wanted a lift to work. They were both hesitant, causing the men to say “the choice is up to you all, we know how the place is and we understand that you can’t trust nobody.
"They also told my brother that he could go on Facebook and check out their auto shop because they just want to help. For some reason unknown they took the ride. The men dropped my sister off to work safely, with my brother in their vehicle as well. And then they drove my brother back to his vehicle. Went with him to get a bottle of water to cool down the vehicle and gave my brother all the assistance with his vehicle that he needed,” Thomas wrote.
She thanked the men for their assistance, noting that the story could have turned out different.
“I want to thank the two men who helped my brother and my sister last night. Aamir Mohammed and the other guy (Vijay Singh), from Auto 8 Car Centre. God is always watching over his children. There are still good and honest people in Trinidad. As a person working in media, I read so many horror stories of innocent people being affected by crime, that I had to highlight last night’s incident and thank God for sending his angels, in the form of those two men, to help my brother,” Thomas wrote.
