Guyana's Chief Elections Officer's contract renewed

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has decided to renew the contract of Chief Election Officer (CEO) Keith Lowenfield.

The decision to extend the contract was taken at yesterday’s statutory meeting.

Lowenfield’s contract was due to end after the Regional and General Elections scheduled for 2 March 2020.

Opposition Commissioners had called for the contract to be renewed after the polls.

But, the Government members’ countered saying Lowenfield kept to his contract and gave notice, three months before the end of his term, about his intentions to remain at the helm of GECOM.
