Happy Holidays: Six long weekends in 2020 for Barbados

Barbadians will enjoy five three-day weekends in 2020, and one four-day weekend.
Employees, students and teachers can start celebrating early as the majority of the bank holidays in 2020 are falling on Mondays and Fridays.
Therefore, as Bajans from abroad come home for We Gatherin' and residents take some vacation days to spend with their loved ones on island, here's a tip to get you some extra 'off days'.
According to the Labour laws of Barbados when a bank holiday falls within an employee's holiday period, they are owed the extra day or days. This means that 15 vacation days can easily turn into 16 or more depending on how you take your leave.
So when's the best time to maximize your vacation?
May Day (Labour Day) - May 1 - Friday
Whit Monday (Whitsuntide weekend) - June 1 - Monday
Kadooment Day (First Monday in August) - August 3 - Monday
Independence Day - November 30 - Monday
Christmas Day - December 25 - Friday
April has three holidays including the four-day Easter weekend:
Good Friday - April 10 - Friday
Easter Monday - April 13 - Monday
National Heroes Day - April 28
Other holidays for Barbadians include:
New Year's Day - January 1 - Wednesday
Errol Barrow Day - January 21 - Tuesday
And in the eyes of many, the saddest day for a bank holiday to fall is a Saturday. According to some Bajans, 2020 has two wasted holidays:
Emancipation Day - August 1 - Saturday
Boxing Day - December 26 - Saturday
