For stealing a cellphone, a homeless man will spend the next eight months at Her Majesty's Prisons Dodds.

This was the sentence imposed by a Bridgetown Magistrate after Timothy Anderson Trotman pleaded guilty to the theft charge.

The 43-year-old Trotman said it was his state of drunkenness that led him to go into a bag belonging to Anthony Morgan and take his cellphone.

According to police, on February 26, Morgan was at an arcade in Marhill Street, The City when the incident occurred. Whilst there, Morgan put his bag in an area near the arcade machines and leaving it there for sometime as he mingled with friends.

When he returned to retrieve the bag, he realised it was opened and as he searched on the inside he noticed the cell phone was gone.

Fortunately, the CCTV showed Trotman going into the bag and taking the phone before leaving the arcade.

Police apprehended him on March 18.
