Shai Hope fired Barbados Tridents to a 30-run victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors in their opening game of the 2018 Caribbean Premier League at Providence.

Hope stunned the home crowd with a belligerent 88, while Nicholas Pooran blasted 45 off 27 balls to propel the Tridents to 185-4.

The Amazon Warriors were never up to the chase with Sherfane Rutherford’s pedestrian 48 off 46 balls epitomizing the lack of urgency in their chase of 186.

Barbados Tridents bowling attack also deserved great credit for excellent use of the conditions, especially Raymond Reifer, who took 5-20, as the Amazon Warriors suffered their first defeat of the 2018 tournament.

Summarized scores: Barbados Tridents 185-4 (Hope 88, Pooran 45*, Smith 41; Green 1-24, Tahir 1-24) vs Guyana Amazon Warriors 155-8 (Rutherford 48, Malik 38, Hetmyer 22; Reifer 5-20). Barbados Tridents win by 30 runs.
