HOT TOPIC: Schools not ready

Less than one week before the start of the 2016-2017 academic year and some schools are still under construction.

Teachers are back in class planning and preparing for students to return on Monday, September 12, but in some cases the schools are not ready for teaching and learning.

Today the Barbados Union of Teachers, by way of the President Pedro Shepherd said that they are eyeing the school repairs and hope that all will be well by next week.

The Union will conduct more site visits and tours of schools on Thursday and again next Monday.

This news struck a chord with some readers.

Here are some of the comments to the Loop News Barbados Facebook page:

“New school year . Same rubbish . Wait til the last week of the vacation to rush trying to do the things they had a whole 9 weeks to do”

“Hmmmm....smh”

Loop asked the question, ‘If there is construction going on, will you send to school your child next Monday?’ and one mother commented and said, ‘Nope’.
