Infant critical after accident with police vehicle

A five-year-old girl has been hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being struck by a police vehicle.

This follows an accident along Belmont Road, Belleplaine, St Andrew around 3:29 pm on Wednesday, September 18.

Lawmen say the girl had been walking along the road on her way from school when she pulled away from her mother’s hand and ran across the road, colliding with a police vehicle.

An ambulance was summoned but none were available at the time and both the mother and the injured girl were transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention.

The little girl suffered a fractured right leg, a collapsed lung, head injuries, bleeding from the nose and ears and was diagnosed by medical personnel as being in critical but stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
