Jamaican national pleads guilty to drug charges

A Jamaican man was fined BBD$20,000 after appearing in court on several drug charges today.

Andre Kimar Simpson, 34, was arrested at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Monday and appeared before Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch in the District ‘C’ Magistrates Court today, charged with possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of cannabis.

According to police, Simpson arrived on the island on a flight from Jamaica. A subsequent search of his luggage by Customs officers revealed 25 sealed packages of cannabis concealed in his suitcase.

He pleaded guilty to the offences and was fined BBD$10,000 forthwith or two years in prison for the offence of Unlawful Possession, and $10,000 forthwith or two years in prison on the importation charge.

He was Reprimanded and Discharged (R&D) for trafficking charge, and Convicted Reprimanded and Discharge (CR&D) for Possession with intent to Supply.
