JetBlue flight arriving in St Lucia to take Americans home
Senior Communications Officer in the Office of the St Lucian Prime Minister, Nicole Mc Donald, has provided an update on an incoming flight to St Lucia.
"A Jet Blue flight has been granted permission by the relevant authorities to arrive on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at the Hewanorra International Airport (HIA) to pick up 102 US citizens expected to depart Saint Lucia."
Mc Donald stressed that the borders remain closed despite this repatriation flight.
"We want to assure Saint Lucians that the flight has not been authorized to bring in passengers into the country. Commercial flights are not yet allowed to bring in passengers. Last week there were rumours circulating that a commercial flight arrived with passengers and we would like to reassure that this was not the case. That flight arrived to pick up United States states citizens who have been in Saint Lucia during the partial shut down. I also want to remind Saint Lucians that the cruise ships which will arrive here tomorrow, Carnival Glory and Caribbean Princess are coming to bring home our nationals who were on cruise ships and are subject to strict health protocols."
Senior Communications Officer in the Office of the St Lucian Prime Minister, went on to appeal to St Lucians to avoid sharing fake news.
"There is also a WhatsApp note circulating purporting to be Saint Lucia's reopening plans and I call on persons to stop sharing as this is fake and the phases of Saint Lucia's reopening will be properly communicated to the public via official channels."
