Being a politician is more so about having a human touch and good character than anything else.
Last night during a spot meeting in Parish Land, Christ Church, Minister of Education Ronald Jones who backed Dr Dennis Lowe in his candidature for Christ Church East explained that it was not simply about going to Parliament, passing legislation and seeing how much money is behind a particular ministry, but it is also about awakening the spirit and mind of the governed.
“Money is a means to an end but there are so many things which make our lives important. It is the quality of our thoughts, the quality of our hearts, how we care about our brothers and sisters” he said.
“It is about awakening a conscious[ness] in recognition of humanity and once we pull on those things and represent ourselves in them we are on a path to a better society. The economy will always have productive sectors and sectors which generate income, foreign exchange and employment. These things are natural but some things which are not natural we have to create,” he went on to say.
Jones added that politicians needed to show proper empathy by heart and not simply going through the motion of life. They should reach out in giving love and care in good regard. Lowe, he said was a man who didn’t only think about making money but about the well being of his constituents as well.
