Lions roar again!

Barbados Football Association (BFA) Premier League debutants Scotty’s Car Rental St Andrew Lions are slowly earning the title of “giant killers”.

After defeating reigning league champions Weymouth Wales in their last encounter, the Lions defeated another heavyweight last Sunday evening at the BFA Wildey Turf.

The pride of St Andrew defeated Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame 3-1 to earn their second consecutive victory and move into fifth position of Zone 2.

Derico King gave the Lions the lead in the 26th minute with a moment of brilliance.

King was awarded free-kick taking responsibilities and the national midfielder was precise in his delivery as he lifted the ball over the Dames wall and beyond goalkeeper Jason Welch.

Notre Dame found themselves two goals down in the 48th minute; Welch attempted to dribble by Brazilian midfielder Bruno Da Silva but was dispossessed and the Samba baller passed the ball into an empty net.

Dwayne Mars cut the Dames’ lead in half in the 69th minute with a clinical finish from close range.

The Lions’ two-goal lead was restored when Shamar Edwards capitalized from another Welch error in the 75th minute.

Welch rushed out his area, approximately 45 yards, to deal with a long ball in behind his defence, but it offered little harm as he had two defenders in position to deal with the danger.
