Man shot in doorway in Sobers Lane, other tried to escape shooter

Police are carrying out investigations into another incident in the Sobers Lane area, this time it is a shooting incident that left two nursing gunshot wounds.

Hours after a morning dispute between a man and woman ended bloody, police returned to the same St Michael neighbourhood to investigate reports of a shooting.

The shooting reportedly occurred about 2.55 pm on Wednesday (July 8) in the area of Sobers Alley off Sobers Lane in St Michael. Police said that two persons received injuries. Kirklan Joel Bowen, 25, of Clapham Park, St Michael received a gunshot injury to his right shoulder while Damon Jamal Wharton, 31, of Sobers Lane, St Michael received a gunshot injury to the left side of his chest.

The police report stated that the first victim Kirlan Bowen was in the area of Sobers Alley when a man wearing a black short pants and a black hat with a black shirt covering his face approached him, pointed and discharged a firearm in his direction. The victim ran from the area towards his car which was parked on Sobers Lane. While running away, the victim received a gunshot injury. He continued running, got into his car and drove himself to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention.

The second victim Damon Wharton who was standing in the doorway of his residence at the time of Bowen's shooting, also received a gunshot injury. He was transported by a car to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical attention as well.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
