Meet the creator of this US$5,000 cocktail!
A smooth US$5,000 will get you a taste of L’Imperial: a vintage Chartreuse-infused drink made by mixologist Antoine Hodge.
To get it you’d have to sit in at the Baccarat Hotel in Manhattan. But, what makes L’Imperial so special?

According to New York Lifestyles Magazine: “The L’Imperial at US$5,000 is a potent blend of gin, 100-year-old green Chartreuse, Maraschino liqueur and lime juice perfectly presented in a majestic Tsar Glass designed in 1909 for Nicholas II.”
This Tsar Glass – of a popular design beloved by Russian Tsars – is overlaid in coloured crystal with a high stem, a scalloped base, and diamond and palm leaf decorations.
On the other hand, the key ingredient and the most expensive bit is the vintage Green Chartreuse from Spain.
Recently, Hodge got a hold of the peculiar spirit (also known as the Elixir of Long Life) that is speculated to be made circa 1921-1926.
Hodge, the bar and spirits director at the Baccarat Hotel, is quoted gushing about his now popular creation stating: “…having just acquired an impossible-to-get vintage bottle of Green Chartreuse from Spain, I was very intrigued and felt as if I was holding a piece of history in my hands."
The higher price point is allocated to the souvenir Baccarat Crystal glass, valued at US$3,600, and an exquisite 100-year-old bottle of green Chartreuse valued at US$1,150 per ounce.
The aperitif, described as “intense” with “a powerful smell” initially, was deduced to “warm” “comfortable”, and “delicious!”
Other ingredients include Nolet’s Dry Gin, cherry-oak-aged Maraschino liqueur, lime juice, a golden cherry, and a pinch of saffron to garnish.
Though it is not the most expensive cocktail in the world, L’Imperial comes close.
L’Imperial would therefore rank #4 in price point of the top 10 most expensive cocktails in the world.
