Ministry extends Rendezvous Hill closure after rock collapse
Created : 1 February 2020
Road closed signs have been erected at the entry to Forde's Road.
The Ministry of Transport, Works and Maintenance has set a new deadline for road works to see Rendezvous Hill reopened to through traffic.
A press release was issued by the Ministry positing that the road will remain closed until Monday afternoon on February 3, 2020. This new timeline came after it was initially thought that work would have been completed by Friday, January 31.
The Ministry said that the delayed reopening of the section of road between Forde’s Road and Amity Lodge, Christ Church, was due to the fact that extensive work is being carried out to the rock bluff on Rendezvous Hill.
"Due to the complex nature of the work, the Ministry of Transport, Works and Maintenance was forced to extend the road closure to safely facilitate the work."This precaution was being taken both for the safety of the workers and the safety of the general public.
The crew at the scene has been cutting the rock wall, clearing rocks and trimming trees. A footpath for the safe passage of pedestrians is also in the works.
This decision was disclosed after the Minister of Transport Works and Maintenance the Hon Dr William Duguid, Minister in the Ministry of Transport Works and Maintenance the Hon Peter Phillips and senior officials of the Ministry toured the worksite at Rendezvous Hill, Christ Church on Friday, January 31, 2020.
Motorists are asked to continue to plan their routes carefully to avoid the area until the work is satisfactorily completed.
